"Change". It just doesn't buy as much as it used to.

BBC NEWS | Americas | US Elections 2008 | Is Obama recreating the Clinton era?

Is Obama recreating the Clinton era?

FTA:

All in all, 31 of the 47 transition or staff posts that Mr Obama has filled so far have gone to people with ties to the Clinton administration, Politico has reported.

Eleven of the 12 members of his Transition Advisory Board are Clinton veterans.

I guess it is what anyone does when they are surprised to find themselves dealing with something they can't handle...you surround yourself with people who claim to have the experience you lack.

So much for all those campaign slogans promising change.  Why bring back the old Clinton advisory team?  To paraphrase a recent democrat slogan...eight is enough...more than enough of the failed Clinton policies.

Why is watching hippies cry so much fun?

Caution--do not eat or drink anything while watching this clip...unless you like food and drink coming out of your nose while you laugh at this:

GMA's latest Obama-gasm

In Awed and Hushed Tone, Diane Sawyer Reads Aloud From Obama

In an odd, non-sequitur of a segment, co-host Diane Sawyer kicked off the 8:30 hour of Friday's "Good Morning America" by reading aloud from an essay that President-elect Barack Obama wrote about Abraham Lincoln for a 2005 issue of Time magazine. Stopping the show cold for a minute and 22 seconds, she solemnly began, "...There was something that made us all stop and think. And you know, it's 60 days now. 60 days until the inauguration of a new president."

Then, Sawyer gravely announced that Obama had, in fact, written an essay: "And we saw that President-elect Obama has a favorite photograph, which he looks at. And here are the words that he wrote in Time magazine. An essay." To music that seemed reminiscent of the Ken Burns "Civil War" documentary, with images of Lincoln appearing on screen, the GMA host recited the words of the President-elect's Time article.

Earth to Diane, Earth to Diane...come in Diane. The BO has already been elected. You can stop campaigning now. Please leave the documentaries to professionals.

change | ch ānj|

noun
the act or instance of making or becoming different : the change from being a nobody in Illinois to becoming an somebody in the White House for no apparent reason | see "change the change we are changing"
• the substitution of one thing for another : deceitful democrat for placating marxist.

Etymology:
Greek, from αυτό που είναι εσείς που καπνίζετε and αυτό είναι αυτό που καλείτε αλλαγή "what the hell are you smoking?" and "this is what you call change?"

What the....?

This is from a widget I started using this summer to find the cheapest gas prices in the neighborhood. It's called "Gas"...catchy name, eh?

Anyways...back then I seem to remember gas being over $4.00 per gallon. This snapshot captures the latest prices. From what I remember, OPEC refused to up their output this summer when all the western countries started begging them to do something about the $140 per barrel oil prices. So if they did not increase supply, and overall demand really didn't drop all that much, why has the price of oil/gas dropped like a rock?

I hope someone somewhere made a ton of money of off this. I would prefer to think that somebody manipulated the market and made a couple of million bazillion dollars than to think that the price of oil is like a spin of the roulette wheel.

Tobacco Harvest

IMG_1051

Here's the plantation owner (simulated) enjoying a pipe of last year's harvest (simulated) in an authentic colonial pub pipe (reproduction) and a cup of tea (don't tell those crazy Boston Tea Party "indians").

IMG_1046

This is the best I could come up with for aging/drying. It was inspired by a drying barn we saw at colonial village reproduction at the Yorktown Victory center nearby. I think I should go back and take a closer look next year. I think the colonists kept a small smoky fire going on the floor of the barn to help dry. Fran really didn't approve of that part of the plan when I suggested it! :)

IMG_1043

None of the leaves grew very big, but this is what I was left with.

IMG_1038

This year's crop. I started out very late with about 50 plants actually germinating. Only this many survived the "droughts" and clumsy transplanting. These plants are supposed to grow 5-6 feet tall and flower before harvesting.

From the daily leaf photo, you’d never think i spent 4 hours yesterday cleaning/vacuuming/bagging up leaves!

The county has announced the annual leaf pickup schedule, so fall is without a doubt here. But the best autumn news of all....Winterfest is back! Apparently it is made by Gordon Biersch, but sold at Trader Joe’s. One of my favorite best kept beer secrets.

Forgotten History: Why MLK was a Republican

National Black Republican Association - DYK-Why MLK was a Republican
It should come as no surprise that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican. In that era, almost all black Americans were Republicans. Why? From its founding in 1854 as the anti-slavery party until today, the Republican Party has championed freedom and civil rights for blacks. And as one pundit so succinctly stated, the Democrat Party is as it always has been, the party of the four S's: Slavery, Secession, Segregation and now Socialism.

It was the Democrats who fought to keep blacks in slavery and passed the discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws. The Democrats started the Ku Klux Klan to lynch and terrorize blacks. The Democrats fought to prevent the passage of every civil rights law beginning with the civil rights laws of the 1860's, and continuing with the civil rights laws of the 1950's and 1960's.

I'm sure if you ask any member of Generation E what political party MLK Jr belonged to, you'd get a very surprised look after you corrected the Gen E'er that MLK was not a member of the BO's party.  But that surprised look would pale in comparison if you listed the democrat party's long list of "contributions" towards civil rights (summary from the article):

  • democrat George Wallace led pro-segregation at University of Alabama, and proclaimed "I say segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever"
  • democrat JFK voted against the 1957 Civil rights Act
  • democrat JFK was opposed to the 1963 March on Washington by Dr. King
  • democrat JFK and brother RFK had Dr. King wiretapped and investigated by the FBI on suspicion of being a Communist  (how's that look compared to today's Patriot Act?)
  • democrat senator Robert Byrd was a former member of the KKK and considered MLK a troublemaker, and later led a failed filibuster against passage of the civil rights act of 1964

  • even further back in time, it was the republicans that amended the constitution post civil war to grant blacks freedoms and passed the first civil rights...back in the 1860s!
  • republicans also helped start the NAACP.

Nope, your typical Gen E'r would be completely surprised about the original origins of US civil rights.  But that is just another day in the re-write of US History.

Economics even Joe Six pack can understand

I'm sure that all the big brains of the democratic strategists would poo-poo this working man's explanation of taxes as being preposterous. But substitute wine-spritzer and day-spa for beer and bar respectively, and I'm sure you'd get their attention:

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten
comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it
would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh would pay $7.
The eighth would pay $12.
The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that's what they decided to do.

The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with
the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. 'Since you are
all such good customers,' he said, 'I'm going to reduce the cost of your
daily beer by $20.' Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the
first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free.

But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they
divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share?'

They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted
that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would
each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested
that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same
amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

And so:
The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings). The
sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% savings). The seventh now pay $5
instead of $7 (28% savings). The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25%
savings). The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings). The tenth
now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued
to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to
compare their savings.

'I only got a dollar out of the $20, 'declared the sixth man. He pointed
to the tenth man,' but he got $10!'

'Yeah, that's right,' ex claimed the fifth man. 'I only saved a dollar,
too. It's unfair that he got ten times more than I got' 'That's true!!'
shouted the seventh man. 'Why should he get $10 back when I got only
two? The wealthy get all the breaks!'

'Wait a minute,' yelled the first four men in unison. 'We didn't get
anything at all. The system exploits the poor!'

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks so the nine sat
down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill,
they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money
between all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, ladies and gentlemen, journalists and college professors, is
how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the
most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for
being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they
might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat
friendlier.

Now this is change even I can believe in.

CHICAGO—In a devastating blow to millions of unsuspecting Americans, newly elected president and international con man Barack Obama fled the country Wednesday with nearly $85 million in campaign funds.

According to FBI investigators, Obama's sudden disappearance was discovered at 6:15 p.m. when the former Illinois senator failed to arrive at a gala event in Lincoln Square, prompting several aides to rush back to his campaign headquarters. At 6:23 p.m., flight logs at O'Hare International Airport confirmed that two passengers, a male carrying two silver briefcases and dressed in a perfectly tailored Brioni tuxedo, and an African-American female wearing a fur coat and speaking in a thick Russian accent, were seen boarding a private plane.

a local army “hero” and local congressman read “letters to home” written by ordinary soldier during various wars. pretty funny stuff in some of them. even today some of the complaints ring true.

beautiful day...very cold but clear. i bundled up and rode the HD to the ceremony, but almost too cold for even that short ride. the view of the changing leaves was worth it though.

came home and “harvested” my tobacco plants. they never did get very big nor did they bloom, but with the night time temperatures hovering around freezing, i thought it best to clip the leaves as small as they are. photos of the harvest soon!

Had a good weekend off to ourselves. No committments, parties, etc. So we took the trailer back to the base on Saturday and went shopping. We found a new baby/rocking/mother-in-law-sleeping chair for the baby room. (parents are visiting finally, yea!) Then we went looking at new/used cars just to see the market selection. I still don’t know if we can afford a change of cars, but fran seems insistent.

also went out to dinner...olive garden. yuck. but at least it was a night off from the kitchen.

sunday made some pancakes and then we went to williamsburg to see the eastern end of the historic area where “Revolutionary City” is shown in a usually roped off area that you have to pay to enter. it’s free due to upcoming veterans day, so we cheapskate veterans took advantage of the awesome weather and the free admission to wander around. some really good performances by “George Washington”, “Benedict Arnold“ and others. very nice day.

i’ll post some photos later...in the meantime here is one from the office window of the changing leaves.

What the...? Part 1

The end must be nearer than i thought.

Nov 8, 2008

i've got some pretty smart friends out there who have actually replied to my BO skepticism and queries with "but he promises so much change, i can just see it in his eyes...."

too bad the born-obamas didn't see this clip or this movie before they blindly followed the Rising of the BO.

maybe a few of the more intelligent ones would have snapped out of their stupor to realize the quality of the BS they've been fed for the last 2 years. at least Hilary would have been predictably inefficient and citizens of the US could criticize her when she made mistakes without fear of being branded racists or worse.

the cult of BO will not allow any honest criticisms to be raised and will root out nay-sayers. the first "press conference" has already shown a glimpse of that. the first press conference has already shown the BO backing down from his promises now that he has no use for them or the 'bots that he promised them too.

Obama apologizes to Nancy Reagan for 'careless' joke
Ben Smith's Blog: Obama apologizes to Nancy Reagan for 'careless' joke - Politico.com

Yep, this is the (arrogant) change we can all believe in.  Open yap, insert foot, then change to other foot...

Just like the 57 states comment, the BO has somehow mixed up his facts...it was a president's wife some 150 years ago who reportedly held seances and it was the last democratic president's wife 10 years ago or so who admittedly spoke to the dead in the white house.

so i guess it's ok to start attacking old white women from the presidential podium now?  say BO, how about that old white woman who recently died in hawaii...have you any seances with her in the last few days?  ooops...my bad, i guess only the BO has stature to make jokes like that.

yep...this is going to be an entertaining 4 years.

BO coddling fails to stop even after election

At about 2:00 minute mark, the "newsman" divulges his journalistic duty.  For those with weak stomachs, you might want to turn away...from MSNBC.

So it is now the job of a journalist to "make the presidency work". Is it possible for journalistic integrity to go any lower?

I guess it is worth noting the other two journalists on the show seemed so stunned they weren't able to mount a very good rebuttal, even though they appeared to strongly disagree.

Excuse Factory...now closed!

I saw this comment on a forum somewhere. Sorry I can’t give the original poster due credity.

Law of unintended consequences. The excuse factory is now CLOSED. No
more of this nonsense that the U.S is a "racist" country, where a brutha
can't make it. The sharptons, jacksons, and their minions are scrambling
looking for a new talking point to keep their cash stream alive by
selling the false notion of perpetual victimhood. The wealthiest, most
prosperous, most educated "people of color" in the world are in the U.S.
Are they all coming here to be oppressed? Nothing is off limits to
anyone. Hussein raised $1 billion and became leader of the free world
with support of millions of (gullible) white folk. About a year from
now, when the euphoria wears off and the reality of this failed social
experiment sets in, the kool-aid drinkers will realize that they are no
better off under a (half) black president and that the "secret" to
personal success lies within oneself, not the government.

Some overly inflammatory verbiage, but point is worth considering about racism. Especially re: affirmative action, can affirmative action be (legally) put to bed now?

Maybe that explains why Sharpton and Jackson weren’t more prevalent in the campaigning. Might explain all those crocodile tears in the multiple closeups of Jackson on election night.
Very windy and rainy day yesterday. At about 8 oclock we heard a big “boom” outside and the lights went off. I yelled down at Fran b/c she was experimenting in the kitchen with a new recipe, but it wasn’t her. Guess another tree fell in the neighborhood (one fell about 2 weeks ago) and we were without power just as she was going to start cooking her experiment.

So, we “evacuated” to the Airstream which is still parked on the side of the house because I hadn’t dragged it back to the storage yard after last weekend’s camping trip. I turned on the gas, fired up the stove and we “camped out” for a couple of hours. It was really kinda nice. We didn’t have the TV or computer going, only a radio playing and were “forced” to just talk and entertain ourselves. Of course we weren’t forced, but I mean we weren’t just talking to each other in between bites of food during dinner or in-between commercials while watching the news. We had a really fun time, just the two of us.

Ooops... Santorini was at our feet as normal and definitely didn’t let us forget he was there too.

Maybe I won’t take the trailer back for a while and we’ll just use it for a “retreat” once or twice a week.

Generation E

YouTube - Obama Is Going To Pay For My Gas And Mortgage!!!

The creation of a new generation, Generation "E"...Generation Entitlement. Gen E has now officially come of age. The now think they have an advocate in the White House who is committed to their cause: Entitlements to free things from the government.

Video of woman saying the Obama will help pay for her gas and her mortgage:

So we stayed up late last night watching a horrible scene playout on TV....a president elected on the backs of overt racism. I can’t find the link (yet) but i understand that the BO got 90% or so of the black vote. I thought that the BO was going to prove the racism in the US was over.

This European-American wonders what MLK Jr would think of the racism that seems to taint the election of the first black president.

DAILY NATION - Bull awaits Obama win in Kogelo village

They have set aside a bull to slaughter in celebration should the Illinois senator whose father was Kenyan win, according to family spokesperson Mr Malik Abongo.
DAILY NATION - Bull awaits Obama win in Kogelo village

Just goes to show you what a Global World we live in.  New polls show that Americans will be eating nothing short of a metric ton of bull per man, woman, and child if BO is elected.  What the news report fails to add is that (if elected) BO will hand-select who among the faithful elite get the prime cut, while all us "Joe the plumber types" will be encouraged to enjoy four years of pure BS.

By the weekend, his running mate will tell us it is patriotic to eat more than our fair share of BS.  And the recently converted born-obamas will start happily chewing...

returned safe and sound from another trip to Shenandoah camping. We stayed at Big Meadows again this year. Couldn’t have had better weather if we had planned it...and we didn’t. We were supposed to go camping last weekend with the squadron and it was cancelled due to weekend “special” flying just as I was about to hook up the trailer. (note--then within 24 hours the “special” flying was also cancelled). so since we had the trailer at the house, we decided to go on our own this weekend and see where we ended up. And the weather was absolutely perfect...75 during the day, 40s at night, not a cloud in site.
