Well, not quite a whole weekend, but we celebrated our 6h anniversary on Thursday with a nice dinner out and then traded cards on the real day, Friday.
Thursday we went to A Chef’s Kitchen, a unique restaurant in downtown Williamsburg. Fran has been dying to go there for quite some time, but it has always been full every time she tried to get reservations.
But I successfully got reservations and surprised her with a night out, despite my new diet. I think it was worth it. The restaurant is set up like a classroom and the chef (with a very impressive record) cooks and teaches techniques to everyone. So the dinner “show” was about 2.5 hours long and we had an amazing 5+ course dinner all prepared in front of us.
Our dinner menu:
Butternut Squash Soup with Melted Fontina & Reggiano Parmigiano Semonlina-Crostini
Salad Composé of Baby Spinach, Roasted Artichokes, Herbed Cannolini & Marinated Red Onions
Skillet Baked Corn Bread
Sautéed Shrimp on Yukon Gold Potato Gremolata with Parsley Butter
Roast Rack of Pork Stuffed with Applewood-Smoked Bacon, Mushrooms & Garlic Confit with Saffron-Leek Risotto
Tia Maria Tiramisu with Sundried Cherry Coulis
Plus Champagne, 3 Glasses of Wine (matched to the individual courses) and some Hors d'œuvre before the show.
The chef was very simpatico as was his assistant, and it was great entertainment. We got a copy of the recipes as we left. The bad thing is that the dinner was outstanding and changes every few months, and he also gives “short courses” during the week days. I have a bad feeling that we’ll be back again. The dinner was expensive, but considering we had almost 3 hours of entertainment AND a first class dinner...probably cheaper than a dinner/show combo for two in any big city.
So much for the diet!
Today’s recommendation is obviously A Chef’s Kitchen
